Iman Shumpert Impact League Highlights

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuDyJF9oiMk&feature=share]

Knicks rookie Iman Shumpert has been working hard all offseason and has looked great at the Vegas Impact League. Here are some highlights along with some other NBA players. Shumpert shows off his athleticism and dunking ability as well as delivering a nice ally oop on one play. Shumpert seems like he will be a great player on the Knicks when/if the NBA season gets started. Enjoy

Roger Mason Slips Up on Twitter

After todays meeting between the NBA and NBA Players Association, the Knicks Roger Mason Jr, VP of the NBAPA, released an interesting tweet…

I think he clearly was trying to send a direct message to somebody and accidentally just tweeted it. I think this is a great sign though. After they met for 5 1/2 hours today, the two sides agreed to meet on Thursday as well. I think the fact that they are meeting at all is a great sign. Whether any progress has been made yet is unknown but it is great to see the two sides meeting. The season is approaching and the two sides need to get a deal done. I am actually surprised they are meeting as much as they are at this point. I thought they would wait till the 11th hour but they are getting some 10th hour negotiating done. In just a few days, I have gone from feeling very pessimistic about this lockout to being very optimistic.

Watch Renaldo Balkman Get Tossed From FIBA America Game

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lStJBsUKcl8&feature=player_embedded]

… Oh Renaldo. During Monday’s FIBA America game between Puerto Rico and Venezuela, Renaldo Balkman of the Knicks got into it with Memphis’ Grevis Vazquez. Balkman’s Puerto Rico team was winning the game 85-62 when Vazquez gave Balkman a hard foul. Balkman then retaliated by attempting a Zinedine Zidane headbutt but was promptly tossed to the floor. Puerto Rico, battling for an Olympic spot won the game easily 94-82.

Melo League Defeats Goodman League 149-141

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5GntGLvL2U]

On the eve of the second meeting by the NBA and NBAPA to discuss the lockout, the Melo League All Stars led by Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul and LeBron James defeated the Kevin Durant led Goodman League team 149-141 at Morgan State University. Durant had a game high 59 points while LeBron had 38 and Carmelo had 27. Other notable players in this game included: Josh Selby, Gary Neal, DeMarcus Cousins, Brandon Jennings, Donte Greene and Hugh Jones.

I believe these pro-am leagues are great for basketball right now. The attendance for these games is fantastic and I think these games are great because they give fans the chance to see players that they may not be able to see during the NBA season. NBA tickets are not cheap, especially at Madison Square Garden (thanks Dolan) so Melo playing for free in Baltimore, where he grew up, gives those fans a chance to see an NBA star that they could not regularly see.

Patrick Ewing and ’90′s Knicks Featured in Latest NBA 2k12 Trailer

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHnCZsD9txU]

In last years Michael Jordan themed NBA 2k11, Patrick Ewing and the ’94 Bockers were one of the old Jordan rival teams you could play with. This year, NBA 2k11 is emphasizing a new legends mode picking some of the greatest teams of all time and allowing gamers to play with them. In this latest “NBA’s Greatest” Trailer, Patrick Ewing and the 90′s Knicks are one of the teams that are featured. Unfortunately there was no showing of the 70′s Knicks with Willis Reed, Clyde Frazier and Earl Monroe. I think it is a shame that they are not in the game (or at least there is no sign they will be) because they truly were one of the best teams ever. That being said, this is a video game and they have to make the most money they can. Younger gamers will clearly be more intrigued with the Run TMC Warriors or the Chris Webber Kings (two teams featured in the trailer) then they will with a team from the 70′s that they never saw play. It is a shame but it is understandable why the 70′s Knicks probably will not be in the game. Also, on a side note, I hope 2k takes the time to go and fill in all the benches on these legendary teams. Last year, they gave you the starters and then put a bunch of really crappy made up players as the bench. I do not wanna play with made up bench players again on the Knicks, I want Greg Anthony and Charles Smith and Rolando Blackman and Hubert Davis to be in the game instead of fake players. I have a feeling 2k will have the fake players again which is really annoying but we will see what happens.

Correction: I have learned via Alan Hahn that the 70′s Knicks are in the video game.

Iman Shumpert Off the Wall 360 Dunk

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWBZaajteXU&feature=player_embedded]

Question the Knicks drafting of Iman Shumpert if you want, but his athleticism is unquestioned. The man is a phenomenal athlete. He is 6’6 with length, speed and hops. All of this is on display as Shumpert hits a sick 360 dunk. Enjoy.

Mozgov Slams On Lithuania

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du-H9S2Kx2A&feature=player_embedded#at=12]

I know he does not play for the Knicks anymore but I still am a big Timofey Mozgov fan. I thought it was ludicrous that Dolan got him thrown into the Melo deal. We would have been a much more complete team the rest of the year with Mozgov in the starting 5. Playing for Russia against Lithuania and Mozgov had a monster slam. The announcers make this clip truly great. Enjoy.

Clyde to Open New Hell’s Kitchen Sports Bar

Clyde is such a beast. The hall of fame guard and current Knicks TV announcer plans to open a 10,000 square foot sports bar and restaurant on the ground floor of a residential on 505 West 37th Street. The bar will be upscale and will likely be named “Clyde’s”. The bar will serve classic American fare as well as display sporting events and sports memorabilia. The restaurant will partner with Ark Restaurants who currently is behind numerous other New York eateries. Frazier’s son, Walt Frazier III, said that his father has been seeking space to build a bar for a long time. Frazier III also said that this particular complex was chosen due to the mass population of young adults in the area as well as the lack of good competition in the area.

This is awesome and I cannot wait to see how it turns out. Clyde is another example of somebody using his sports stature to make advances in other aspects of life. Good for Clyde, I wish him the best of luck with his bar.

Knicks 2011-2012 Schedule Released

This afternoon the 2011-2012 Knicks schedule was released. Granted, this schedule will probably be changed due to the lockout but it is still nice to get excited for all the marquee games the Knicks will have. As Alan Hahn of Newsday points out, the Knicks are on ABC Sunday 4 times, TNT Thursday 8 times and ESPN 10 times. I am down to see all these games on national tv because we now are a national team with star power but we better not have LeBron syndrome and choke a lot of these games late. With all the national exposure will come a lot of criticism if we are not successful.

Here are some of the marquee games from the schedule:

Nov 2 vs. Miami

Nov 16 at Denver

Nov 17 at LA Lakers

Dec 7 vs. San Antonio

Dec 25 vs. Celtics

Jan 27 at Heat

Feb 2 vs. Chicago

Feb 10 vs. LA Lakers

Feb 19 vs. Dallas

Mar 4 at Boston

Mar 12 at Chicago

Apr 5 at Orlando

Apr 8 vs. Chicago

Apr 10 at Chicago

Apr 15 vs. Miami

Apr 17 vs. Boston

The Knicks full 2011-2012 schedule can be seen here.

NBA Schedule to be Released Tomorrow Afternoon

Despite the fact that the 2011-2012 NBA season is likely to be missed the NBA will still release its schedule tomorrow at 2 pm eastern time. Howard Beck of the New York Times says that the Knicks will open versus Miami on Nov. 2 and will play Boston on Christmas Day.

“If the lockout is resolved in time, the 2011-12 season will open with the Chicago Bulls playing in Dallas, against the defending-champion Mavericks, according to ESPN.com.

The Knicks — who will be playing in a newly renovated Madison Square Garden — are scheduled to open play Nov. 2, against the Miami Heat, according to a person who has seen the schedule. The Knicks are also scheduled to play a marquee game on Christmas, against the Boston Celtics.”

Lets just hope there is a 2011-2012 season so we can actually see Amare, Melo and the gang play out a full NBA schedule. I would settle for like a 50 game schedule because at least we would have games but I am praying that we can get a full schedule in. I think the NBA has a lot of momentum right now. Last season was the best season I think the NBA has had in my lifetime, or since I have been watching the NBA closely (since about 2004). It would be sad to see the momentum to the league killed and again I am praying for a full season next year.
