Knicks-Celtics: What To Watch For

I really hate the Celtics. They’ve owned the Knicks over the past decade. They ended New York’s season last year, and have beaten the Knicks twice already this season. Worse than the losses are the ways the Knicks lose. They always outplay Boston in the first half and then fall apart in the 2nd half. Boston always gets the calls and they always hit the clutch shots. They own the Knicks.

To be completely honest, I’m worried about tonight’s game. The Celtics have been probably the hottest team in the NBA since the all-star break. In their last 10 games, the Celtics are 7-3. New York is also playing well, but has lost two games in the past week to Chicago and Miami. In both games, the Knicks inability to score has killed them. Melo is carrying his weight, but the rest of the team has failed to consistently score. I think the Knicks will compete in this game, but I’m wary of their ability to score enough baskets late in the game to win.

Does Landry Fields “Suck”?

In yesterdays Knick loss to Miami, shooting guard/small forward Landry Fields struggled mightily. He wasn’t great defensively, he didn’t shoot well and he had a few momentum-killing plays. In fact, Fields has drawn criticism from Knick fans all season. There is justification for those criticisms. Fields’ jump shot has regressed mightily from last season and has been transparent all season. His jump shot is as close to broken as broken can get, as Fields is shooting a porous 25% from 3 point land this season. Despite his struggles shooting the ball, I think Fields is a solid player. Many fans look at only his broken jump shot, and automatically assume that the rest of his game is weak. I disagree. While shooting is a huge part of the game, especially for a wing player, it is not the only aspect of the game of basketball. Take Jared Jeffries for example. Jeffries is a below average offensive player, but impacts the game positively in many other aspects, mainly his defense. Now, I’m not necessarily saying that Fields is a wing version of Jeffries. I think Fields can do some good things offensively, as well as play solid defense. From what I’ve seen on Twitter, I think it is safe to assume that many Knick fans believe that Landry Fields “sucks”. However, I am not of that contingent. I get as frustrated as anyone about Fields’ ineptitude shooting the ball, but I do not believe he sucks. I think Fields does a lot of things well and I will tell you why.  More

Billy Walker Has Changed His Twitter Handle

For anybody interested, Billy Walker has now changed his twitter handle. Originally, Walker was @westvirginiaslim (or something like that), but now his new handle is @1023sveryown.

Don’t ask me what that means, because I have no idea. Also, Walker apparently wants to be called “William H. Walker” rather than “Bill” or “Billy”. I wonder what he thinks of people calling him “F&%$*@# Walker!”

Um… I’d be lying if I said I knew anything about Nurse Jackie. I had never seen nor heard of the show before Melo decided to be a guest star in it. From the video above, he’s a baseball player in some sort of rehab. He also has to “take a leak” at the end of the video.

Notes From the Knicks 93-85 Loss To Miami

Well, that ruined my afternoon.

Carmelo Anthony’s 42 points weren’t enough today, as the Knicks lost to the Heat at MSG, 93-85. In the end, the Knicks missed Jeremy Lin and Amar’e Stoudemire as they didn’t have the fire power to trump the Heat today. LeBron James and Dwayne Wade killed the Knicks today, combining for 57 points and 19 rebounds.

In my opinion, the Knicks played a pretty poor game today. Give Miami credit, but the Knicks did a lot of bad things today. They didn’t rebound well, shoot well and had instances of spotty defense. However, I don’t feel as bad about New York possibly facing Miami in the playoffs as I once did. I think the Knicks showed today that they can hang with the Heat, mainly due to the fact that they’re a much improved defensive team. If Amar’e Stoudemire is back for the playoffs, which he is expected to be, New York’s offense should receive a much needed lift. I think the biggest problem today is that the Knicks just couldn’t score. Melo was cooking, but apart from him, the Knicks didn’t get much from anyone else. JR Smith wasn’t very good, Fields was horrible, Shumpert was mediocre and Baron was… well, Baron. I don’t feel as bad about potentially playing Miami in the playoffs, but I’m still bitter about today’s game. I hate losing to the Heat.

Knicks-Heat: What To Watch For

In a potential playoff preview, the seemingly playoff bound Knicks face off at MSG against the sliding Miami Heat. Headed into the game, New York has won 4 of their past 5 games, while Miami has lost 3 of their last 5. Led by Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks are 13-4 since the firing/resigning of Mike D’Antoni. Both teams are coming off blowout victories over bad teams. This one should be fun.

This post will be longer than most pre-game posts, but its Knicks-Heat. It’s a huge game and a potential playoff preview. It should be fun.

Notes From the Knicks 103-65 Dismantling of the Generals

The score was Knicks 103 Generals 65. Do I even need to say more?

New York was pretty good, while Washington was pathetic in both effort and execution. The Generals were completely inept on both sides of the ball, and the final score backs up that sentiment. Washington’s excuse for an NBA team shot an abysmal 27.8% from the field. That was not a typo. They also shot just 4/20 from downtown and decided that defense wasn’t important either. New York shot a whooping 14/29 from downtown and shot 46.4% on the night. Baron Davis gave himself a sweet birthday gift with an efficient 7/9 shooting 18 point performance. I could stop right now by saying that everyone on the Knicks was good, while everyone on the Wizards sucked, but I’ll take the time to go into more detail.

Notes From the Knicks 111-107 Victory Over the Bucks

I’ll take the win. It was sloppy, ugly and difficult to watch, but in the end the Knicks were able to escape Milwaukee with a 111-107 victory. Carmelo Anthony was once again the man, scoring 32 points on 13/26 shooting. Unlike Tuesday’s loss in Chicago, the Knicks got scoring from all areas of the offense tonight. Six different Knicks, including JR Smith, Tyson Chandler and Steve Novak, scoring in double figure points tonight. I wouldn’t say it was a good victory, as the Knicks allowed the Bucks to shoot 49%, but it was a gritty victory for the Knicks. It was also a huge win, as the Knicks now sit 2 full games up on the 9th seeded Bucks. New York now controls its own destiny over the next 9 games. The Knicks aren’t out of the woods yet, in terms of making the playoffs, but they’re almost there.

Knicks-Bucks: What to Watch For

Here are the standings in the Eastern Conference:

As you can see, the New York Knicks are just 1 game ahead of the 9th place Milwaukee Bucks. If the Knicks lose to the Bucks tonight, the teams will be tied for 8th place in the Eastern conference. This is a huge game for the Knicks. There is no other way to say it. However, I do have a problem with something that Tyson Chandler said.

“It’s a must-win for us,” Tyson Chandler said. “We have to approach this as if it’s a Game Seven playoff game in all honesty.” via ESPN New York 

Obviously this is a huge game, but a must win? The term “must win” implies that the Knicks season will be over if they do not win this game. This is not a “must win” game, because the Knicks have 9 incredibly important games after this. I do not believe that any good comes from over-dramatizing the importance of a game. The Knicks should feel the pressure to win, but there is a potential for a breakdown if too much pressure is felt. I don’t like Chandler saying this is a must win, because there is a chance the Knicks may lose this game. If they are to lose, the season is not over. There are 9 games after this! If they are to lose, the Knicks cannot go into a hole and tank the rest of the year. Whether they win or lose this game, the Knicks have to take care of business the remaining 9 games. This is not a must win folks, but it is a huge game.
